Year 1
The programme offers an analytical and critical approach to scientific,administrative and technical issues linked to the conservation, study, presentation anddissemination of the heritage. It includes courses in the history of art and an initial research project.
It is spread over two semesters.
Collaboration with foreign universities is possible (international).
First semester
- History of collections, museums and the heritage in Europe

Research group :
Throughout the academic year a dissertation is preparedunder the supervision of a teacher in various disciplinary domains. Every student participates inone research group with the provision of methodological support.

Assessment
Final examinations at the end of the first semester (January), continuous assessment, dissertation orally defended in the second semester.
The assessment results in award of credits (ECTS), 30 credits per semester equivalent, 60 credits are necessary to complete the annual course.
The « Diploma of Museology of the Ecole du Louvre » is awarded at the end of the first year.
Year 2
The second year allows specialising in one of the following two domains :
Research, with a choice of two optional routes (« History of art applied to collections » , « Museology ») or the vocational route comprising a choice of three routes (« The Art Market », « Mediation », « Heritage Professions »).
It comprises seminars, preparation of a research dissertation or a practical placement dissertation. Depending on the sector chosen, a mandatory practical placement and a course in an applied modern language.
The seminars are conducted under the scientific guidance of curators, heritage specialists or academics.
Third semester
- « Research » route :
History of art applied to collections or Museology
- A research and methodology seminar concerning the research conducted bythe student in history of art or museology.
- Three specialist seminars to be chosen from seminars on the history of art, museology including one seminar from partner institutions.
- An applied modern language course.
- « Vocational » route :
The art market or mediation or heritage professions
- Methodology seminar on the definitionand follow-up of problems encountered during the practical placement.
- Three vocational seminars per route chosen.
- An applied modern language course.
Fourth semester
- « Research » route :
History of art applied to collections or Museology
- A research and methodology seminar.
- A mandatory practical placement (two months' minimum) of which the content must relate to the research topic.
- An applied modern language course.
During the two semesters, the research dissertation is prepared.
The subject, selected in agreement with the dissertation supervisor at the start of the academic year must concern an innovative field of research which could possibly be developed further during the third cycle
- « Vocational » route :
The art market or mediation or heritage professions
- A methodology seminar.
- A mandatory practical placement with validation (three months) in a professional organisation directly linked to the chosen route that will form the subject of the practical placement dissertation.
- An applied modern language course.
During the two semesters, the research dissertation is prepared.
Assessment
Continuous assessment (diligence requirement). Oral defence of the dissertation.
The assessment results in award of credits (ECTS), 30 credits per semester equivalent, 60 credits are necessary to complete the annual course.
The « Diploma of the second cycle of the Ecole du Louvre » is awarded at the end of the second year.
The Diploma is of Master grade.
