What is VAE?
The Social Modernisation Act of 17 January 2002 concerning development of professional training, introduced to the FrenchEmployment Code, the concept of validating experience acquired(VAE in the French acronym). It allows anyone to request, subject to certain conditions, validation of experience acquired to justify all or a part of the knowledge, aptitudes and skills required to obtain a Diploma or other qualification awarded in the name of the State, or more generally, for inclusion in a National Register of Professional Qualifications.
VAE is a method of obtaining a Diploma equivalent to school and university education,apprenticeship and lifelong learning.
In consequence, the Diploma is not only awarded as evidence of training but may also represent a personal and professional project.
Conditions
Equivalent to four years’ professional experience, full time, directly related to the Diploma for which VAE is requested.
Procedure
Submission of admissibility pack
The application is considered admissible specifically if the total cumulative paid employment, unpaid and/or voluntary work performed by the applicant is equal to or greater than a minimum of four years as fixed by the regulations and if the experience acquired by the applicant in the various activities described in the pack relates to the qualification sought.

If the applicant is considered admissible, submission of the Experience Acquired Validation pack:
In the application pack you should describe the tasks and activities you have accomplished during your professional life and set out the knowledge, aptitudes and skills acquired, and their appropriateness considering the reference documentation for the Diploma sought.

Interview with the VAE judges panel
The Panel is composed of diploma teachers elect and professionals who will evaluateyour experience on the basis of the Validation Pack and an interview.
The Panel may decide to attribute all or only a part of the Diploma.
In the case of partial validation, the President of the Judges' Panel will specify the knowledge, In the case of partial validation, the President of the Judges' Panel will specify the knowledge, aptitudes and skills to be acquired that must be the subject of training or additional professional experience. You then have five years to re-apply.
