Double diplomas

The partnership between the Ecole du Louvre and international business school ESSEC aims to give motivated students solid knowledge, both in the field of management and that of museums and heritage.

Introduction

The double degree programme between the Ecole du Louvre and the ’École supérieure de sciences économiques et commerciales (ESSEC) aims to enable students from the Ecole du Louvre to acquire skills in the field of cultural management, then giving them the possibility of moving towards professions linked to sponsorships, the art market, museum management, etc.

The double diploma programme was created by both establishments by playing on the complementarity of the education they provide. It gives students the opportunity to obtain a diploma from each of the schools (the second cycle diploma for the Ecole du Louvre, and the from ESSEC Grande École diploma). To this end, and in order to preserve the very essence of both courses, the two establishments have built a cross-study path, playing on the alternation of courses and internship periods.

For Ecole du Louvre students, access to the double diploma is done in two stages:

• a preparatory year during which the selected students will take prerequisite courses at ESSEC (during the third year of the first cycle),
• an application at the end of the preparatory year.

The partnership between the Ecole du Louvre and the Paris institute of political studies Sciences Po Paris aims to provide motivated students with solid knowledge in social sciences and museology and heritage management.

Introduction

The double degree programme between the Ecole du Louvre and Sciences Po Paris is a course of excellence reserved for a small number of students (five per class), which aims to enable students of the Ecole du Louvre to acquire knowledge on social sciences.

The double diploma programme was created by both establishments by playing on the complementarity of the education they provide. It gives students the opportunity to obtain a diploma from each of the schools.

The double diploma offers two different courses:

• The culture course of the masters’ degree in public affairs at Sciences Po and the professionalising course at the École du Louvre
• The master’s degree in history from Sciences Po and the research program from the École du Louvre

This master’s degree, which lasts four semesters, combines the complementary skills of the two institutions.

The first two semesters are carried out in Paris and correspond to the programme of the museology course (history of collections, principles of conservation-restoration, mediation, administration and management of heritage, etc).
This course includes a master’s dissertation of approximately 50 pages on a subject in art history or museology. The possibility is also offered daily to students to discover, analyse and comment on works of art and their presentation at the Louvre and in other Parisian museums.

The objective of the two-semester study stay in Heidelberg is to train participants in the methodological foundations of scientific research and to develop their analytical skills and critical thinking. Students write a master’s dissertation at Heidelberg University, for which they will be able to use the specialist books and documentations of the library.

Successful participation is formalised:

• at the Ecole du Louvre, with a “Museology Diploma” (after the first year) and a “Second Cycle Diploma” which is equivalent to a master’s degree;
• at the Heidelberg University, with the degree of “Master’s degree in European Art History Studies”;
• with a certificate from the Franco-German University.
